Recently several of our clients have had the need to expand on what the Optim Toolset can deliver straight out of the box. Requirements like expanding the delivered PeopleSoft Native Application access to keeping multiple layers of data in sync for a test environment. Different clients with many different requirements but all with a desire to improve what they do with their data.
The common theme was they all had a need to take an existing application and manage the data it contained. This includes databases with millions of rows and thousands of tables, all containing data that just needed a new home. For many clients the answer is to use the Optim Data Archiving process so they can remove the data from the active environment. For others the company goal is to keep confidential information confidential. Several of our clients this year needed a custom solution to mask sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) in order to use test environments that meet strict government regulations such as the European Union Privacy rules. The Optim Data Masking Solution was the fit for them to meet these requirements.
Each company needed a unique solution to help them corral their data. For one we built a multi-level masking approach to address their individual need of producing usable testing environments built on multiple key structures for several tables. This is something the Optim solution does not provide without some custom modifications. We solved this by integrating custom tables into the Optim Data Privacy conversion process. The IBM Optim tool is flexible enough to allow this level of customization while still providing the overall processing framework to quickly access and map many tables and their data between multiple environments.

If you are or were engaged in an Optim project that required adding or customizing to the delivered solution or product, I would really like to hear what it is that you did and how you did it.
