Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity. It is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. With annual revenues of more than $11 billion and approximately 15,000 employees, Entergy delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
IBM and BTRG performed a proof-of-concept (POC) for Entergy on Data Masking for both PeopleSoft HCM 8.3 and PeopleSoft HCM 8.8. First, BTRG installed the Optim™ Data Masking and Subset product onto Entergy's software to determine if the system could maintain relational integrity across both PeopleSoft versions while supporting multiple versions of data masking "jobs" for development and deployment. Next, BTRG provided an audit trail for both masked databases and data fields to test the viability of using delivered social security number (SSN) transformation routines as well as the ability to create custom masking methods.
In Addition, BTRG:
- Created and masked a user defined subset of data
- Saved data masking
"jobs" for execution
- Maintained data formating between masked and
unmasked data
- Masked specific tables
and data from the
- PeopleSoft HCM Archive instance
Once the necessary scenarios (see right) were completed, BTRG validated the configuration for the PeopleSoft 8.3 and 8.8 Optim™ templates. Next, we created the relationship and access definitions for both PeopleSoft versions to confirm the correct data had been extracted. After this was confirmed, the table and column maps for social security number masking were constructed to create and run Convert and Compare requests which allowed BTRG to review the SSN Transformation results for PeopleSoft HCM 8.3 and PeopleSoft HCM 8.8. Once the results were reviewed in the target database, BTRG gathered and performed an analysis on the statistical data which was presented to management.
After reviewing the POC with management, BTRG implemented the environment set-up by configuring Optim™ Test Data Management and Data Privacy. After validating the configuration and testing Optim™, BTRG imported the templates for both PeopleSoft HCM 8.3 and PeopleSoft HCM 8.8. Finally, BTRG installed Optim™ for both versions including:
- PeopleSoft HCM 8.3 Masking – Import, Creation or Discovery of tables
containing SSN, Generate & Migrate SSN tables and Mask SSN data - PeopleSoft HCM 8.8 Subset Masking – Import, Creation or Discovery of data model, Generate & Migrate Data Subset and Mask all SSN data in Subset
- Archive Data Masking – Import, Creation or Discovery of tables containing SSN, Generate & Migrate SSN data table(s) and Mask SSN data
