The IBM InfoSphere Optim toolset for Data Management and overall Information Governance continues to grow and become more robust with each new version. One big area is the integration between the different IBM InfoSphere applications. As many already know you can discover, evaluate, define and then process your data into either an Archive or Extract File; allowing for maximizing your ERP’s performance. The steps to make this happen keep getting easier. This results in making the overall time to delivery and the organizations ROI much better. For exmaple, if you have a database with some level of referential integrity (or none at all as scary as that sounds), you now have some great tools at your disposal.

The process is pretty straight forward and looks like this:

  1. IBM InfoSphere Discovery – Evaluate and generate suggested table relationships and the overall data model based on what is in the database.
  2. IBM InfoSphere Optim Designer – Feed the results into the Optim designer tool to be transformed from a physical data model into an logical one for Optim processing.
  3. IBM InfoSphere Optim – From designer you have additional choices such as either run your Optim Archive ,Extract or Load process from Designer or import the newly defined data model into IBM InfoSphere Optim for additional processing.

These steps make the processing of business critical functions such as archiving data you no longer need or creating a valid subset of your data for testing purposes a much easier and streamline process. These tools give the valuable resources within any organization more time to concentrate on the business.
