The Project Goals
Cherokee Nation Businesses needed to upgrade PeopleSoft Financials from version 9.0 to version 9.2. This upgrade provided the opportunity to strategically plan needed process improvements and position Cherokee Nation Businesses for growth. The objectives of the upgrade were to achieve standard best practices, reduce customizations, and provide comprehensive documentation of the system.
Additional objectives for this project included:
- Develop a strategy to take advantage of mobile applications in PeopleSoft Financials 9.2
- Eliminate manual processes
- Improve audit/ tracking capabilities of user actions
- Complete process documentation
- Eliminate (or reduce) custom workflows and replace with delivered functionality
BTRG worked closely with Cherokee Nation Businesses in upgrading PeopleSoft Financials Asset Management, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Billing, eProcurement, Expenses, General Ledger, Inventory, and Purchasing from version 9.0 to version 9.2. The first step in accomplishing these goals was analyzing The CNB’s current processes to identify requirements, address pain points and review existing configurations and customizations. Next, BTRG mapped 9.2 features to CNB’s requirements and pain points and looked for opportunities to improve business processes.
With an understanding of CNB’s requirements and business process improvement goals, BTRG began designing and building the upgraded application. During this phase of the project, BTRG created and implemented a configuration design for new 9.2 features and retrofitted existing customizations where necessary. BTRG then performed unit testing for 9.2 features and supported the CNB during system testing and User Acceptance Testing. (UAT).
Once the configuration had been thoroughly tested for functionality and user acceptance, BTRG focused on knowledge transfer to CNB team members. This training provided CNB with the necessary knowledge to take advantage of new 9.2 features and enabled them to be less dependent on consultants in the future. BTRG then executed upgrade scripts and configured the 9.2 systems for go live.
Working collaboratively, BTRG assisted CNB in upgrading their PeopleSoft financials application from v9.0 to v9.2. This was accomplished on time and under budget while reducing customizations by 40%. CNB’s decision to upgrade to PeopleSoft v9.2 provided them with the ability to take advantage of new functionality, reduce customizations and meet industry best practices. Additionally, CNB worked with BTRG to map a strategy for the future rollout of mobile functionality. The adoption of newly implemented features found in v9.2, combined with a commitment to adopt best practices, allowed CNB to leverage the software’s new capabilities to improve their business processes. The completion of this project adds another successful 9.2 upgrade to BTRG’s portfolio.
