Related Content Framework Allows InFlight to Surface SharePoint Web Parts into PeopleSoft!

SharePoint to PeopleSoft Integration

Boston, MA - April, 2011 — BTRG, a leading Systems Integrator for Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise and a Platinum Partner in the Oracle® PartnerNetwork (OPN), announced today that InFlight, the leading tool to integrate PeopleSoft content into SharePoint, now works in reverse! InFlight is now capable of surfacing SharePoint web parts into PeopleSoft.

InFlight™ sits between PeopleSoft Enterprise and SharePoint and filters the conversation between the two, on the fly. By using InFlight™, PeopleSoft customers can pull fully interactive content from their PeopleSoft Enterprise Web applications into their SharePoint portals quickly, securely and without having to write a single line of code. Launched at the end of 2009 and designated an Oracle Validated Integration for PeopleSoft Enterprise shortly thereafter; this latest release of the product now allows customers to present SharePoint document libraries, Gantt charts, calendars and other web parts inside of PeopleSoft and alongside relevant PeopleSoft content.

"From day one, clients and prospects have been very enthusiastic about InFlight’s ability to quickly and easily present PeopleSoft content inside of a SharePoint portal. They also kept asking, ‘could we use it to pull SharePoint content into PeopleSoft?’”, says John Bonin, sr. manager of sales and marketing at BTRG. “As of today, the answer is ‘yes, we can’”, he adds.

After the initial set up, which takes about an hour, on-going use is easy. InFlight™ includes a custom SharePoint Web Part to incorporate PeopleSoft content within SharePoint pages in a matter of minutes. Likewise, integrating SharePoint web parts into PeopleSoft is just as easy and there are two options for PeopleSoft customers.

PeopleSoft customers can either deploy pagelets in their PeopleSoft environment or take advantage of the Related Content Framework, released in PeopleTools 8.50. The Related Content Framework in PeopleTools 8.50 and above enables customers to present a combination of PeopleSoft transaction pages with collaborative, analytical and informational content. Configuring the Related Content Service to talk to InFlight allows the InFlight product to be able to surface SharePoint web parts into PeopleSoft and present them not only within PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal, but also directly within any of the PeopleSoft applications themselves.

“The Related Content Framework introduced in PeopleTools 8.50 is a great example of Oracle’s investment in the PeopleSoft suite.  It’s just a really easy way to allow PeopleSoft users access to a whole lot of information without switching applications.  We’re proud to be able to add SharePoint document libraries, events, and lists into the mix.  Particularly with PeopleTools 8.51 – you can key off of Level 0, Level 1, and Level 2 fields – that’s awesome.  In plain English, that means you can use virtually any part of a PeopleSoft record to filter a SharePoint library or list, automatically tag new documents as you upload them into a SharePoint document library, or show events or list items that pertain only to a specific project, customer, invoice, employee, whatever!  This opens a lot of doors for people who use PeopleSoft for their transactions and SharePoint for document storage and team collaboration and want integration between the two”, said James La Brash, InFlight product manager, BTRG.  “We’re committed to making InFlight the perfect fit for organizations that use PeopleSoft and SharePoint, and I feel that InFlight really helps our customers realize the maximum value from both products. “
