Service Oriented Architecture

Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) is getting a lot of hype from a lot of people. BTRG can help your organization cut through the confusion surrounding SOA with a clear, unambiguous SOA methodology that takes SOA out of the clouds and turns it into a pragmatic and practical solution.

The first step in understanding SOA is an understanding that SOA is not a product and it is not a technology. SOA is not Web Services or Fusion. SOA is not a band-aid or quick fix. So what is it?

SOA is a conceptual business architecture that adds flexibility to business processes and the applications that drive them. It achieves this by breaking processes down into smaller functional elements called “Services” which can then be assembled into applications to achieve standardization and interoperability. BTRG has packaged the following client services led by the best Solution Architects in the industry.

SOA Roadmap. An SOA Initiative should not be taken lightly and while “Services” are at the core of SOA; BTRG begins every SOA project by first working with you to determine what SOA Strategy is right for your organization. We’ll help you to arrive at clearly defined business, IT, and architectural goals so that your SOA Strategy is anchored in tangible results.

SOA Governance. Then, we help your organization establish the policies and SOA Governance criteria your organization will need to enforce the technical standards that an SOA requires. Governance is critical because an SOA is usually achieved incrementally one project at a time. While this makes SOA more practical to implement it requires your development team to have a clear understanding of the new service design, integration and architectural models or your SOA Strategy can never materialize. To ensure that SOA Governance is adhered to BTRG will create and apply the policy, developer, process, and ROI metrics needed to stay on target.

SOA Enabling. Once your organization has a clearly articulated SOA Strategy and a defined Governance policy we will work with you to evaluate which of the SOA Enabling Technologies are right for your business. The goal is to identify the right process to change, using the right enabling technology. Web Services, WebSphere, WebLogic, TIBCO, SOAP, WSDL, XML, BPEL, XML Publisher, PeopleSoft Application Management Pack – these technologies and more all have advantages.

SOA Business Processes. Finally, ‘Business Processes’ and ‘Services’ are the core of SOA. We’ll help your organization determine which integration efforts can be eliminated or expanded by creating reusable services in an SOA. By orchestrating processes in an SOA environment, an organization will close the gap between the business users and IT delivering greater productivity, faster time to market, lower costs and both greater flexibility and agility.
