In my earlier post, PeopleSoft Inventory 9.2 Upgrade Also Includes Impressive Enhancements from 9.1, we took a dive into the benefits an upgrade from 9.0 to 9.2 would yield via the included enhancements from 9.1. While the jump from PeopleSoft 9.0 to 9.1 was impressive, Oracle tacked on several additional improvements with the release of PeopleSoft 9.2.  Within the Inventory module, notable 9.2 enhancements appear within Inventory Analytics and Alerts, Mobile Inventory Management, and Item Change Templates. These upgrades deliver tools for users to react quickly and correctively to potential problems, as well as complete tasks quicker and with more accuracy.

Inventory Analytics and Alerts

Oracle PeopleSoft 9.2 offers Inventory Analytics and Alerts through the Supply and Demand WorkCenter.  This tool identifies inventory bottlenecks and gives users information to correct the problems.  “Out-of-the-box” alerts are delivered to identify potential problems such as overdue sources of supply and demand past scheduled shipment date. With these alerts, problems are identified and corrective actions can be taken directly from the WorkCenter.

Mobile Inventory Management

PeopleSoft 9.2 Inventory introduces a new application: PeopleSoft Mobile Inventory Management.  This is a separate module that works in conjunction with the Inventory module.  Mobile Inventory Management enables users to perform inventory transactions through the use of handheld units such as Windows-enabled devices or iPads.  These devices update the Inventory database in real time. With the mobile boom and increasing demand for round-the-clock accessibility, Mobile Inventory Management steps up to extend PeopleSoft’s capabilities as a modern and convenient solution.

Item Change Templates

In release 9.1, Oracle introduced configurable item templates (mentioned in this blog post) that allow you to tailor the function of creating new items to the need of the specific role or user creating the item.  However, this functionality did not apply to making changes to existing items.  With PeopleSoft 9.2, configurable item change templates have been introduced allowing you to make changes to existing items or groups of items.

The configurable item template component enables the creation of item change templates and the ability to associate defaults and attributes in order to maintain item information specific to a user or role. Users are able to use these templates to specify the new item attribute values they require in the item change activity selection criteria. This information will be used to select the items or item groups for the change and to initiate the change process.

The PeopleSoft 9.2 Inventory enhancement that seems to be generating the most interest is the Supply and Demand WorkCenter.  Material Managers are able to go to one place and see pie charts and bar graphs displaying various metrics, see their alerts identifying potential issues, access links to the appropriate pages to resolve issues, and access links to queries, reports, and pivot grids.
